Secondary Title

Middle School Basketball is focused on learning core skills teamwork, and game rules.

Most students have had zero to minimal handling of a basketball, therefore the foundational skills are established and fostered.

  • Game Length: Usually 24 to 32 total minutes divided into 6-minute or 8-minute quarters.
  • Equipment: A standard 10-foot high hoop, with a smaller Size 6 basketball used for both boys and girls.
  • Play Style:  Striving for basic formats on offense, basic passing, and man-to-man defense.
  • Skill Building: Learning proper dribbling, passing, shooting form, and footwork.
  • Teamwork: Teaching spacing on the court, court awareness, and sportsmanship in a Co-Ed configuration.
  • ParticipationGiving players of varying skill levels a chance to play and grow while developing their individual strengths.
  • Practices:  Held 5 days a week during the Athletic Period and extends until 3:45 - 4:00 four of those days to allow for scrimmage style practice and give each athlete a chance to get their hands on the ball.
  • Games: Games are played against opponents that also allow Co-Ed teamwork. They are usually at 5:30 in the afternoon and a good mixture of away and home games. Home games feature concessions, pep squad performances, half time fun and of course the home town crowd advantage.
  • Uniforms: Provided by the school - Jersey and matching shorts that reverse from home team to away team colors. Athletes need good basketball shoes that have ankle support (high tops). It is important that their growing feet and ankles are supported properly to avoid injuries.
